Generally, the maximum penalty for an A misdemeanor level offense is a $2,000.00 fine, plus 24% penalty assessment (total, $2,480.00), 12 months in the House of Corrections, and 2 years of probation. If you are charged with an A misdemeanor, you may be eligible for court appointed counsel if you qualify for financial reasons.
